Whatever "undesirable" situation you find you and yours in,
find out what tools are at your disposal to make things better, then make good use of them. With persistancy and patience, you will rise to a level where the stars are within reach. Any future sidetrips back to the bottom of the barrel can be tolerated with patience and at least a few smiles. More importantly, experience will tell you that the stars are within easy reach from the bottom of the barrel too.
